Stacey (pseudonym) was happily married to Adrian (pseudonym) and the two owned two (2) acres of land in Kagadi District which they cultivated. Unfortunately Adrian passed on in 2007 and his father also passed on shortly after. Stacey’s brother-in-law, Jake (pseudonym), took advantage of the situation and grabbed the land. Jake took full possession of the land and denied Stacey access to it even when she filed and won a case in Kagadi Grade I Magistrate’s Court. Jake filed an appeal and continued to retain possession of the land.
This situation frustrated Stacey and in 2016, she approached JCU Hoima Centre seeking intervention on the matter. Stacey was represented by the JCU advocate who helped her oppose the appeal. On 1st June 2020, Masindi High Court finally delivered judgement in favor of Stacey. She was granted full possession of the land plus costs and she was so grateful to JCU for supporting her in her long fight to repossess her land.
