Justice Centres Uganda recently concluded a media road trip across the country for members of the media fraternity in Uganda. The media road trip was an opportunity for representatives of various media houses in Uganda to embark on multiple field visits of Justice Centres installations across the country and get first hand experience of legal aid service provision. This activity was built on the success of the Justice Centres media workshop held in August 2015 where JCU officials engaged the media on various legal aid issues.
The objective of the road trip was to give the media access to a wealth of information and content on legal aid service provision from a JCU context. Through this engagement, information was collected and experiences shared through feature stories, documentaries, interviews (Q&A) and news.
Participants in this activity gained a deep appreciation of our successes, challenges and aspirations for the future. These experiences were shared with the wider world through publications in the media and contribute to a positive shift in attitude and perspectives on legal aid services in Uganda. The JCU brand was also be strengthened through positive reviews and improved “name recognition” in the public domain (as a result of good media coverage following the media road trip).
