Awareness on legal rights

Awareness on legal rights implies not only the availability of information on legal rights and the judicial processes, but what those rights and laws actually mean to the communities. It is one thing for a cultural leader to have information on a widow’s right to inherit, and rather another for him to realize the implications for his interventions in the community. Equally, it is not enough to inform parents that corporal punishment is against Ugandan law; rather they need to know what this means for their family lives and what alternatives for action they have.
