In September 2019, Ntalo Joseph together with other beneficiaries were brought to the Mubende offices by the LC 2 chairperson of Buganzi Parish, Mubende District. The story is that they had lost their land to one Kazibwe Charles. This land dispute started in 2007 and things got worse in 2009 when Kazibwe sued our clients in a civil suit wherein he wanted an eviction order against the clients, a permanent injunction to restrain them from using the land
Kazibwe won this suit and he was declared the rightful owner of the land causing our clients to be evicted from their land and restrained from using it. Upon hearing this background story, JCU legal officer instituted an appeal before the High Court of Mubende in 2019. He successfully represented them and opposed the application for eviction/committing them to civil prison.
After a long legal battle, JCU successfully litigated the appeal and helped Ntalo & other beneficiaries recover 56 acres of land situated in Buganzi Parish, Mubende District. Our clients couldn’t believe they’d finally acquired justice after all this while. “We did not have money to pursue any appeal, we had lost hope” said Kiyimba, one of the beneficiaries, as he thanked JCU.
