Our client Florence, lost her husband to a long-time illness in 2021. Florence had been a stay home wife and she had no means of looking after their four children. However, it was known that her late husband had a sum of Ugx. 6,000,000 million on his NSSF account. Florence had no knowledge on how to access that money and yet she was desperate. This is when a friend brought her to JCU Mengo offices for assistance.
Florence was guided by a JCU lawyer where she went to LC1 for an introduction letter as the widow of the late and, to Administrator Generals office to get certificate of no Objection. JCU drafted the petition for the grant and later appeared in Nakawa Court in August 2022. Florence was indeed granted the Letters of Administration enabling her to access the six million on her late husband’s NSSF account.
Despite NSSF’s delay to remit the money to the client’s account, the money was eventually credited to her account early 2023. She has been able to pay school fees for her children. Florence also disclosed that she got a job as a shop attendant this year, which helps her support her family.
